a large group of the earlier people 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how unhappy those of the left hand -- 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
