These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
