The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
