The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Are free of blame, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
