The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 but We see it near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Eager to roast; 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 except those that pray 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
