The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 stripping away his skin, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those that pray 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
