The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allah, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 18, Page 289] 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
