The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Save worshippers. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
