The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 save those that pray 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
