The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 except those that pray 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
