The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
