Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
