In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
