Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
