The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
