The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
