The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
