The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
