The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
