The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
