The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
