No! By the moon 32 By the night when it departs. 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 So what is the matter with them that they turn away from the advice? 49 as if they were startled asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
