By no means! By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except those of the right hand 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 concerning the sinners, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
