Nay, by the Moon 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 About the guilty: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
