No, by the moon! 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to mortal man 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
