Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness the Day of Resurrection! 1 But nay! I call to witness the accusing voice of man's own conscience! 2 Deemest man that We shall not assemble his bones? 3 Indeed, We have the power to restore his very finger tips! 4 Nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him. 5 asking [derisively,] "When is that Resurrection Day to be?" 6 But when the sight is dazed 7 and the moon is eclipsed, 8 and the sun and the moon are brought together, 9 On that day man will cry out, “Where shall I flee?” 10 No, there shall be no (place of) refuge. 11 With your Lord alone shall on that day be the place of rest. 12 On that Day, man will be told of all that he has sent before and what he has left behind. 13 Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness, 14 even though he offer his excuses. 15 Do not forestall (the revelation before its completion) by acting in haste. 16 It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it: 17 So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation. 18 The exposition of its meaning surely rests on Us. 19 Yet you love this hasty world 20 and give no thought to the life to come [and to Judgment Day]! 21 Upon that day faces shall be radiant, 22 Looking toward their Lord. 23 and some faces will on that Day be overcast with despair, 24 Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking. 25 NAY, but when [the last breath] comes up to the throat [of a dying man,] 26 and the angels say, "Who will take away his soul, 27 and he realises that the hour of parting is come, 28 And leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded) 29 To your Lord then will be the driving. 30
