The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
