The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
