The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
