The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
