The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
