The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a fitting requital, 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
