The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
