The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
