The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By the angels who release with gentle release. 2 And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), 3 and vie with the others (in carrying out their Lord's behests); 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 and the second blast follows it, 7 Hearts on that Day will be throbbing; 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, 10 “When we have become decayed bones?” 11 They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 And they will wake up suddenly. 14 HAS THE STORY of Moses ever come within thy ken. 15 Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:- 16 Go to Firon, surely he has become inordinate. 17 And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 He showed him the mighty sign, 20 Yet he belied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 and proclaimed, "I am your supreme Lord," 24 So Allah seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]. 25 Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). 26
