He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
