He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
