He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
