He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
