He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
