He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
