He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
