He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
