He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
