He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
