He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
