He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
