He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
