He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
