He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
